Peer Review Process

This process involves the comprehensive evaluation of submitted manuscripts by qualified experts in the field prior to publication. Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia (JFI) employs a structured, objective, and transparent peer-review system managed entirely through the Online Journal System (OJS):

1. Submission and Initial Screening

  • Authors submit their manuscripts online through the Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia OJS portal.

  • The Editorial Team performs an initial screening to verify that the submission aligns with the journal’s focus and scope, complies with author guidelines, passes plagiarism screening (Turnitin/iThenticate), and includes all requisite documentation (such as ethical clearance certificates where applicable).

  • Submissions failing to meet fundamental requirements are returned to authors with constructive feedback, or rejected immediately (desk rejection) if outside the journal's scope.

2. Selection of Reviewers

  • The Editor-in-Chief or assigned Section Editors appoint at least two (2) independent peer reviewers selected on the basis of their domain expertise and scholarly track record.

  • Reviewers must have no conflict of interest—financial, institutional, or personal—with the authors or the subject matter under review.

  • JFI operates a Double-Blind Peer Review process, ensuring that the identities of both authors and reviewers remain mutually anonymous throughout the evaluation.

  • Reviewers are invited to evaluate and return their assessments within a standard timeframe of 2 to 4 weeks.

3. Reviewer Evaluation

Reviewers conduct an in-depth scientific evaluation of the manuscript, assessing:

  • Scientific merit, originality, and novelty;

  • Methodological rigor, data integrity, and reproducibility;

  • Logical coherence, clarity of presentation, discussion depth, and conclusion validity;

  • Strict adherence to research ethics and international publication standards.

  • Reviewers compile actionable comments, constructive criticisms, and recommendations designed to enhance the quality of the manuscript.

4. Reviewer Recommendations

Following assessment, reviewers submit one of the following recommendations:

  • Accept Submission (acceptance without revisions);

  • Revisions Required (acceptance conditional upon minor revisions);

  • Resubmit for Review (major revisions required with subsequent review round);

  • Decline Submission (rejection).

5. Author Revision

  • When revisions are requested, the corresponding author receives the consolidated reviewers' feedback and editorial directives.

  • Authors must revise the manuscript point-by-point in accordance with the suggestions and provide an accompanying rebuttal letter / response matrix detailing all modifications made.

  • Revisions must be returned within the stipulated editorial timeframe.

6. Reviewer Re-evaluation

  • The revised manuscript and the author’s response matrix are resubmitted to the original peer reviewers (particularly in instances of major revisions).

  • Reviewers evaluate whether their critical concerns and suggestions have been adequately and rigorously resolved before issuing a subsequent recommendation.

7. Editor's Decision

The Editor-in-Chief or assigned Section Editor reviews the reviewers' appraisals and the revised manuscript to render a final editorial decision:

  • Accept Submission: The manuscript is formally accepted for publication.

  • Minor Revisions Required: Minor editorial adjustments are needed prior to formal production handover.

  • Resubmit for Review: The manuscript requires further substantial scientific revision and an additional round of peer review.

  • Decline Submission: The manuscript is rejected for publication.

8. Communication with Authors

The editorial decision is formally communicated to the corresponding author via the online journal platform and registered email, accompanied by reviewer comments and explicit instructions.

9. Final Evaluation and Production

Accepted manuscripts proceed through copyediting, language polishing, reference validation, and layout formatting to generate the final publication galley (PDF proof). The corresponding author is contacted to review and approve the final galley proof within a designated deadline.

10. Publication

The finalized article is published on the Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia website, either as an Online First / In Press article or within the designated bi-annual regular issue (January or July). Authors are officially notified via email with direct links to the published work and its assigned permanent Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
