Author Guidelines

PART I: EDITORIAL POLICIES & PUBLICATION ETHICS

1. Authorship Criteria

Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia adheres strictly to the authorship criteria defined by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). To qualify for authorship, each contributor must fulfill all four of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; OR the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data for the work;

  2. Drafting the work OR revising it critically for important intellectual content;

  3. Final approval of the version to be published;

  4. Agreement to be accountable for all aspects of the work in ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

The Corresponding Author assumes primary responsibility for coordinating all communications with the editorial office during manuscript submission, peer review, revision, proofreading, and post-publication stages. Non-author contributions (such as general supervision, acquisition of funding, laboratory technical assistance, or language editing) must be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section with written permission from the contributors. Ghost, guest, or gift authorship practices are strictly prohibited.

2. Manuscript Types

Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia welcomes manuscripts under the following categories:

  • Original Research Articles: Full-length reports presenting novel empirical data, valid methodologies, and significant scientific contributions to pharmaceutical sciences (8–14 pages in length).

  • Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analyses: Transparent, structured syntheses of empirical evidence adhering strictly to standard methodological guidelines (e.g., PRISMA).

  • Review Articles / Mini-Reviews: Comprehensive or concise critical overviews covering recent advances, technical innovations, and emerging paradigms in pharmacy.

  • Short Communications: Brief, concise reports describing urgent, breakthrough, or preliminary findings with high scientific significance.

  • Case Reports: Informative reports detailing rare clinical cases, unusual adverse drug reactions, or innovative pharmaceutical care practices.

  • Letters to the Editor: Scholarly discourse and critical responses to articles recently published in the journal, or commentaries on emerging healthcare and pharmaceutical policies.

3. Publication Schedule

Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia is published bi-annually, two (2) issues per year (every 6 months), appearing in:

  • Issue 1: January

  • Issue 2: July

Accepted manuscripts that have completed layout editing and proofreading may be made available online (Online First / In Press) prior to the scheduled formal issue release.

4. Plagiarism Policy

All submitted manuscripts are subjected to similarity screening using plagiarism detection software (such as Turnitin or iThenticate) prior to peer review. The journal enforces a maximum allowable overall similarity index of 20%, with similarity from any single source not exceeding 2-3%. Manuscripts exceeding this threshold will be returned to the authors for comprehensive paraphrasing or rejected immediately (desk rejection) in instances of severe plagiarism or redundancy.

5. Allegation of Research Misconduct

Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia follows the guidelines and flowcharts established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) when addressing research and publication misconduct:

  • Misconduct includes data fabrication, data falsification, selective reporting, image manipulation, text plagiarism, redundant/duplicate submission, and improper authorship attribution.

  • The Editor-in-Chief will seek written clarification from the authors upon identification of potential misconduct at any stage of the editorial or post-publication process.

  • If severe scientific misconduct is verified, the journal reserves the right to reject the manuscript, issue a formal retraction, enforce a temporary or permanent submission ban on responsible authors, and notify their affiliated academic institutions.

6. Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any potential financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could be perceived as biasing the research findings or interpretation (e.g., commercial research grants, employment ties, consultancies, honoraria, stock ownership, or patents). A formal declaration must be inserted prior to the References section. If no conflicts exist, the authors must state:

"The authors declare that there are no conflicts of interest regarding the publication of this manuscript."

7. Post-Publication Discussion

The journal encourages academic discourse following publication. Readers and the scientific community may submit comments, methodological critiques, or discussions via Letters to the Editor. Eligible letters will be shared with the original authors to provide an official Author's Reply, and both communications will be published together in a subsequent regular issue.

8. Correction and Retraction Policy

In accordance with COPE standards:

  • Corrections (Errata / Corrigenda): Published to rectify minor factual errors that do not undermine the scientific validity or conclusions of the article (e.g., typographical errors in author names, affiliations, or minor numerical values). The correction note is permanently linked to the primary article.

  • Retractions: Issued when scientific conclusions are proven invalid due to substantiated data fabrication, falsification, severe plagiarism, copyright infringement, or gross ethical breaches. Retracted papers remain publicly visible in the electronic repository, clearly watermarked as "RETRACTED", and accompanied by an official Retraction Notice explaining the rationale.

PART II: AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Jurnal Farmasi Indonesia accepts scientific manuscripts in the form of research reports, case studies, literature reviews, systematic reviews, or short communications related to the pharmaceutical field.

1. General Principles & Originality

  • The manuscript must not have been published previously in any medium, whether in print or electronic form, and must not be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere.

  • If the work has been presented in a scientific meeting/conference, authors must provide clear details regarding the name, venue, and date of the meeting.

  • Ethical Clearance: For clinical research involving human subjects (including medical records or human biological specimens) and studies involving experimental animals, an Ethical Clearance approval certificate must be enclosed from an authorized Institutional Research Ethics Committee.

2. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy in Manuscript Preparation

  • Authorship Restriction: Generative AI tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or Copilot do not qualify for authorship under ICMJE/COPE guidelines and must not be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors remain fully accountable for the intellectual integrity and accuracy of the entire work.

  • Text & Data Processing: The use of AI is restricted to language editing, readability enhancements, and computational coding assistance. AI must never be used to fabricate or falsify raw experimental data, methodologies, scientific interpretations, or bibliographic citations.

  • Graphical Abstract Authorization: Authors are permitted to use generative AI design tools (e.g., Midjourney, DALL-E, Canva AI, BioRender AI) to create or assist in designing Graphical Abstracts. However, any AI-generated graphical abstract must visibly retain and clearly display an identifiable AI watermark or explicit credit label (e.g., "Generated with [Tool Name]"). The visual representation must accurately reflect the empirical scientific findings without misleading elements.

  • Mandatory Disclosure: If AI tools were employed in manuscript preparation or graphical design, authors must provide a declaration statement before the References section specifying the tool name, version, and exact nature of use.
